A murder convict met his demise in a police encounter early on Thursday morning in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district, while his accomplice sustained injuries. The incident occurred when the police retaliated with gunfire.

According to the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, Prashant Kumar, the two assailants gunned down Mohd Ayaz (32), who owned a jewelry shop near Samdhan town in Kannauj. The incident took place on January 5, when Ayaz was returning home after closing his shop late in the evening. The criminals not only shot and killed Ayaz but also looted gold and silver ornaments valued at approximately ₹35 lakh.
The police managed to recover gold and silver ornaments, as well as cash amounting to ₹20 lakh from the criminals.
The official identified the deceased as Izhar, while the injured perpetrator was identified as Talib.
During a routine vehicle check, the police team signaled the duo to stop. However, they attempted to flee and even opened fire, injuring two constables named Aman Singh and Vinay Kumar.
In response, the police fired back, injuring both criminals in the process.
Unfortunately, one of the convicts succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, while the other is currently receiving treatment at a government healthcare facility.
