The caller, identified as 39-year-old JoAnna M. Cottle, reported seeing Adams outside her residence, prompting her to immediately contact 911. Tragically, the call abruptly ended with the sound of gunshots.
Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement confirmed the victims as JoAnna Cottle and her three children: 13-year-old Kaelyn M. Parson, 4-year-old Kinsey M. Cottle, and 4-year-old Jayson L. Cottle. The devastating loss of innocent lives, especially children, has deeply affected the community.
Lieutenant Colonel Chris Hensley expressed the profound impact of the scene, stating, “Those are the worst scenes involving kids. There’s no cop that forgets a scene like that.”
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Adams had a previous relationship with JoAnna Cottle and was the biological father of Kinsey and Jayson Cottle.
Authorities disclosed that Adams had a protective order against him, although it remains undisclosed whether the order was issued for JoAnna Cottle or her family.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) subsequently apprehended Adams at his residence in Maryland. He has since been charged with multiple counts of aggravated murder and other related offenses.
Adams is scheduled to appear in court again for a 10-day jury trial commencing on August 18, 2024.
