Investigation underway after altercation on KU campus

DOUGLAS COUNTY — Authorities in Douglas County are currently conducting an investigation into an altercation that occurred on the University of Kansas (KU) campus. Law enforcement officials were called to the scene after a disturbance involving a Lawrence resident took place at the construction site of the university’s football facility.

The incident transpired around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, near the intersection of Missouri Street and Fambrough Drive. According to a media release from the police, the 41-year-old suspect allegedly confronted workers at the construction site and even attempted to stab at least one person.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed by the authorities, brandished a knife and made threats towards multiple individuals in the vicinity. Initial reports indicate that the man initially resisted arrest and disregarded the commands given by responding officers. Eventually, the suspect complied with law enforcement after being warned about the potential use of less-lethal force.

Following his arrest, the 41-year-old suspect was safely transported to the Douglas County Correctional Facility, where he was subsequently booked on suspicion of committing multiple counts of Aggravated Assault. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The University of Kansas Police Department provided assistance to the local law enforcement agency during the investigation. At this time, the name of the suspect has not been released to the public.
