Accident – Death – Obituary News : UPDATE, 1/10/24, 5:22 p.m.: Lafayette Police Department has made another arrest in connection with the homicide that took place on November 22 at the Plantation Motel. Detectives have taken 42-year-old Lamont Marshal from Lafayette into custody. Marshal is facing charges of manslaughter, armed robbery, and attempted first-degree murder.

UPDATE, 11/29/23, 10 a.m.: Carrol A. Steno III has been arrested by Lafayette Police in relation to this homicide case. Steno has been charged with second-degree murder.

ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A fatal shooting occurred in Lafayette on Wednesday night, resulting in the death of one person. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Kenneth Johnson from St. Martinville.

Lafayette Police received a call regarding a shooting at around 5 p.m. The incident took place in the 2800 block of Northeast Evangeline Thruway.

Sergeant Matthew Benoit of the Lafayette Police Department stated that the detectives are currently investigating the case as a homicide. The victim, a male, was shot during an altercation at the Plantation Motel, located near the Evangeline Thruway. The victim was rushed to a hospital by private means before the arrival of officers, but unfortunately succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

At present, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Benoit mentioned, “One individual was shot during an altercation at the location. That person was transported by private means to an area hospital where he did succumb to his injuries. The victim is an adult male. We’re not releasing this information at this time because not all family members have been notified. Currently, our investigators are on the scene, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and doing everything possible to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.”
