Police Apprehend Suspect Involved in Stolen Car Case

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WILX) – In a daring arrest early Wednesday morning, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers successfully apprehended a 28-year-old man who was attempting to hide on the roof of a four-story building. The suspect, facing multiple felony charges, including Breaking and Entering, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, and Obstructing a Police Officer, was taken into custody without incident.

The incident began when officers discovered a stolen car in Kalamazoo Township during a routine patrol on January 10, just before 5:30 a.m. The vehicle, found unoccupied and cleverly concealed behind a house, prompted an immediate response from law enforcement.

Utilizing the Department of Public Safety’s highly skilled K9 team and aviation unit, a thorough search for the suspect was initiated. K9 handler Baar and K9 Blu expertly tracked the individual’s scent, leading them to an apartment building located in the 100 block of W Dutton Street. Simultaneously, the aviation unit provided aerial surveillance, ultimately locating the suspect on the roof of the four-story building.

With the building surrounded by officers on the ground and the aviation unit keeping a watchful eye, the suspect attempted to evade capture by sliding off the roof and seeking refuge on a small ledge on the side of the structure. However, law enforcement had anticipated this move, positioning themselves near the ledge and successfully persuading the suspect to surrender.
