REEDLEY, Calif. (KFSN) — A growing memorial stands on the side of a house in Reedley, California, where a shocking tragedy occurred. Four family members were found brutally murdered, leaving their loved ones distraught and fearful. Speaking with one of the relatives, whose identity remains hidden due to safety concerns, the magnitude of the incident becomes apparent. “It’s just been a shock that never should’ve happened. You see it all the time in the news. You never think it’s going to happen to you,” they express, reflecting the disbelief and anguish felt by the family.

The tragic events unfolded on a Saturday morning when Reedley police responded to a burglary report at a residence on Church Street near Curtis Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered an empty safe that had been forcibly opened. Furthermore, two bodies were found in the backyard, later identified as 44-year-old Guadalupe Bonds and 81-year-old Billy Bonds.

During their investigation, detectives noticed freshly disturbed soil, leading them to a shallow grave where Billy’s 61-year-old son, Darrell Bonds, was buried. As the excavation continued, law enforcement officers discovered what appeared to be a body part, increasing the horror of the crime scene.

Days later, while executing a search warrant at a neighboring property, officers made a chilling discovery. Inside a detached garage, the lifeless body of Matthew Bonds, Darrell’s son and Guadalupe’s husband, was found. Matthew had been missing since the day of the initial incident.

The primary suspect in the quadruple murder case is a 17-year-old boy who was both Matthew’s neighbor and friend. Attempting to evade capture, the teenager was apprehended by the authorities and is now in custody, facing four counts of murder. However, Chief Joe Garza of the Reedley Police Department believes that additional individuals may be involved, stating, “We know there are other people possibly involved in this; my belief is the 17-year-old didn’t commit this on his own, so we are actively searching for other suspects and people who may have information.”

In connection with the case, two individuals have been arrested on charges of accessory after the fact. They are 34-year-old Brynn Curtis, the teen’s mother, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Rafel Gonzalez. Both have a history of encounters with law enforcement and have been released on bail.

During the search of Curtis’ residence, belongings belonging to her neighbor, Billy, were recovered. The police believe that these stolen items could have been the motive behind the murders. The search for justice and the apprehension of all those involved remains a priority for the grieving family.

The family of Guadalupe plans to hold a vigil on Friday to honor their lost loved ones. In light of the devastating circumstances, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses.

The two individuals released on bail, Rafael Gonzalez and Brynn Curtis, are scheduled to appear in court later this month. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old suspect has a detention hearing scheduled in juvenile court on Thursday.
