U.S. Marshals and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Apprehend Murder Suspect in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC)– In a joint operation, the U.S. Marshals and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office successfully apprehended Jorge Estrada-Gutierrez, a 24-year-old resident of Louisiana, who was wanted for a homicide that occurred on Christmas Eve in Metairie, Louisiana.

On the fateful night of December 24, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots in a residential area of Metairie. Tragically, a male victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Subsequent investigations led to the identification of Jorge Estrada-Gutierrez as a suspect in the case.

Following the identification, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice against Estrada-Gutierrez. The U.S. Marshals Service, known for their expertise in apprehending fugitives, took on the case and soon discovered that the suspect had fled to the Memphis area.

With this vital information, deputies in the Memphis area were promptly notified and tasked with investigating the whereabouts of Estrada-Gutierrez. After meticulous efforts, on January 11, the U.S. Marshals and Shelby County authorities converged on an apartment complex situated at the corner of Central and Lamar Avenue in Memphis.

Investigators, led by the U.S. Marshals, approached the complex with the intention of locating and apprehending Estrada-Gutierrez. Their patience paid off as, moments later, the murder suspect emerged from the back of the complex and voluntarily surrendered to the law enforcement officials, without any incident or injuries.

Following his arrest, Jorge Estrada-Gutierrez was safely transported to the Shelby County Jail, where he will await extradition to Louisiana to face charges related to the Christmas Eve homicide in Metairie.
