Edgewood Man Arrested in Shooting Incident at Walmart Parking Lot

Authorities have apprehended a suspect involved in a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Edgewood. The incident, which took place on January 3, left a man injured after being shot in the arm. John Elliott Fulford, an 18-year-old resident of Edgewood, has been identified as the alleged shooter and was arrested following an investigation.

The arrest was made on Tuesday and Fulford was subsequently booked into the Santa Fe County jail. He has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated burglary, according to a criminal complaint filed in the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

According to the victim’s statement provided to the police, he had just left the Walmart store in the evening of January 3 when he noticed someone inside his pickup truck. As he approached the vehicle, a confrontation ensued between the victim and the suspect. The victim recounted that the suspect produced a “snub-nosed handgun” and fired a single shot, striking him in the arm.

After the shooting, John Elliott Fulford fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim injured and alarmed. Law enforcement officials initiated an investigation into the incident, obtaining surveillance footage from Walmart’s security cameras in the parking lot.

Based on the released images of the suspect, multiple individuals came forward with information connecting John Elliott Fulford to the shooting incident. The police were able to corroborate these tips with the surveillance footage, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of Fulford.

Fulford’s arraignment on the charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated burglary is scheduled for Wednesday.
