Mozie was last seen leaving a Christmas Eve party in her white Lexus SUV, which was being driven by someone else. The Florida Highway Patrol and paramedics were alerted to a body on the northbound side of the Turnpike, south of the Sunrise Boulevard exit, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Following identification of the body as Mozie, BSO homicide detectives were assigned to investigate the case. However, the cause and manner of her death have not been disclosed as of Wednesday (Jan. 10).

According to a news release from deputies, preliminary investigations suggest that the victim sustained injuries consistent with falling out of a moving vehicle. Mozie’s boyfriend, identified as Duane Hawkins, who was the only other known occupant of the vehicle, has been questioned by detectives. Notably, Hawkins was arrested on Monday (Jan. 8) for driving without a suspended license. However, officials have not named him as a person of interest or a suspect in Mozie’s death.

The circumstances surrounding Mozie’s death have left her family in shock and desperate for answers. Sheldon Mozie, the victim’s father, expressed his anguish to WPLG, saying, “Why would somebody leave my daughter on the side of the road like a dog? Why would she jump out of her car?”

To support Mozie’s child and contribute towards the funeral expenses, the family has set up a GoFundMe page, which can be accessed here.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact BSO Homicide Detective Louis Bonhomme at 954-321-4377 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
