A Tragic Incident Strikes the Lake Tahoe Ski Resort

The avalanche occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m., shortly after the opening of Palisades Tahoe. Unfortunately, the resort had to close just 30 minutes after its initial operations due to the devastating avalanche.

The injuries sustained by the three surviving victims are currently not deemed life-threatening, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.

Unveiling the Circumstances Surrounding the Avalanche

The incident took place in an area that had recently opened for the first time this season, according to Michael Gross, Vice President of Mountain Operations at the resort. The region was grappling with the impact of a fierce winter storm, which brought heavy snowfall to the area.

The debris left by the avalanche spans an impressive width of approximately 150 feet, stretching over 450 feet in length, and reaching depths of up to 10 feet. In the search and rescue efforts that ensued, skilled rescue dogs were deployed to locate and assist any potential survivors.
