Aiken Man Arrested for Burglary and Murder in the Death of Swint “Porky” Bradberry

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF)- An arrest has been made in connection with a tragic murder that occurred on Tuesday in Aiken. Alexander Boone, a 27-year-old resident of Aiken, has been charged with burglary and murder in the death of Swint “Porky” Bradberry, a well-respected 78-year-old business owner in the community.

The lifeless body of Swint Bradberry was discovered in his home, where he had suffered fatal injuries from blunt force trauma. Law enforcement authorities were alerted to the incident following a call at Bradberry’s residence on Tuesday.

“Mr. Bradberry was highly regarded in the community as a successful business owner,” stated Captain Martin Sawyer of the Aiken Department of Public Safety. “It was one of his friends who made the distress call to 911.”

Captain Sawyer further elaborated that the responding officers initially believed they were responding to a potential burglary, but upon entering Bradberry’s residence, they discovered his lifeless body. Due to the complexity of the crime scene, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Crime Scene experts were called in to assist with the investigation.

The suspect, Alexander Boone, was apprehended in the parking lot of Aiken Hospital. He was subsequently taken to the headquarters of the Aiken Department of Public Safety for further questioning and will be transferred to the jail. Boone has been charged with first-degree burglary and murder.

According to the warrants, Boone had stolen several items that belonged to the deceased victim. The warrants also indicate that Bradberry sustained multiple blows to the head with an unidentified object.

Captain Sawyer emphasized that the police force is fully committed to investigating all murder cases, regardless of the victim’s background. He stated, “It doesn’t matter if you’re a prominent business person or a homeless individual living on the street. We dedicate ourselves to solving every murder case to the best of our abilities. For us, there is no distinction between the victim and a homeless person. However, we understand that for the general public, the shock is heightened due to Bradberry’s prominence and the number of friends he had.”

Law enforcement officials have utilized all available resources to swiftly seek answers in this tragic case. Captain Sawyer emphasized the importance of collaboration between agencies, stating, “By working together, we can enhance our manpower and significantly expedite the resolution of such cases.”
