Last year, Mr. Pinnock pleaded guilty to pretending to be a lawyer and representing clients in court under the false name of ‘Alec Stuart’. An investigation by A Current Affair uncovered that he had charged clients exorbitant fees, amounting to as much as $1 million in legal fees. However, his punishment for these fraudulent activities was only a $3,500 fine and a community corrections order.

It was during a conversation with the doctor that Mr. Pinnock became agitated and made alarming statements. Assistant Commissioner Cotter described the conversation as confrontational, leading to Mr. Pinnock producing a gun. Witnesses at the scene reported people fleeing as heavily armed police arrived and locked down the area. Fortunately, at least four individuals inside the medical centre were able to escape and raise the alarm.

Shop owner Hollie Spence, who was working at her salon nearby, described the scene as a shock. She mentioned that the sight of police officers with their guns drawn was an eerie experience. Ms. Spence expressed her concern for safety, emphasizing that such incidents were unexpected in the normally peaceful area of Nowra.

Negotiations between the police and Mr. Pinnock lasted for nearly two hours before he left the clinic and confronted the officers. Assistant Commissioner Cotter revealed that Mr. Pinnock brandished the gun at the police, resulting in him being shot multiple times. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assistant Commissioner Cotter acknowledged the difficult situation faced by the officers involved and the family of Mr. Pinnock. He commended the officers for their efforts to negotiate with him. These officers were experienced and had undergone tactical training.

It is worth noting that up to four individuals were present in the doctor’s surgery when Mr. Pinnock entered and brandished the gun. Thankfully, three of them were able to escape immediately, with the fourth making their escape shortly afterward. While Mr. Pinnock was known to the clinic and the police, he did not have a significant criminal history. Instead, his interactions with the police were primarily due to medical and psychological episodes.

The use of force during this incident will be independently reviewed, and the State Crime Command Homicide Squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The focus of the investigation will be on how Mr. Pinnock obtained the firearm and the events leading up to the tense engagement.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. It serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous situations that can arise, even in seemingly peaceful areas. The investigation will provide further insights into the factors that contributed to this devastating event..
