The incident took place at the Nowra practice during a consultation with Pinnock’s doctor. According to NSW police, the stand-off lasted for almost two hours before it was finally resolved by the shooting. Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter revealed that Pinnock had a “very minor criminal record for nonviolent offences” and was known to the police due to previous encounters in the mental health space.

It was also discovered that Pinnock had posed as a lawyer, leading to his sentencing last year after pleading guilty. The Victorian Legal Services Board issued a statement in May 2023, stating that Pinnock was not a registered legal practitioner and should not engage in any form of legal practice. The board emphasized that Pinnock, who also goes by the names Alec Stuart and Alec Anton Stuart, must not advertise or represent himself as a qualified lawyer.

The Nowra health clinic was familiar with Pinnock, who was speaking with a doctor before the incident occurred. He drew his gun and began threatening staff, causing three individuals to quickly escape. The fourth and final person inside the clinic was eventually able to leave as well. Pinnock left the clinic after almost two hours, grabbing a police ballistic shield that had been dropped by officers.

Assistant Commissioner Cotter explained the events leading up to the shooting, stating that Pinnock brandished the gun and raised it in the air and at the police. Multiple shots were fired by the police, hitting Pinnock multiple times. Despite receiving medical treatment from paramedics, Pinnock died at the scene.
