Arrest Made in Connection to Shooting Death of 73-Year-Old Man and ATM Serviceman

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities have apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting death of a 73-year-old man and a separate shooting incident on Medgar Evers Boulevard. Robert Jackson has been charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade.

ATM Shooting Incident

The shocking chain of events began on Tuesday, January 9, when Jackson allegedly targeted an individual who was servicing an ATM machine in the 4000 block of Medgar Evers Boulevard. The unidentified victim was shot by Jackson before he fled the scene in a maroon/red Honda Accord, leaving authorities to launch a search operation.

Discovery of Victim’s Body

On the following day, Wednesday, January 10, the family of Charles Sudduth, Jr. made a heartbreaking discovery. They found his lifeless body on Del Rosa Drive, where he had been involved in a home renovation project. Concerns were raised when Sudduth failed to appear at a scheduled meeting the previous night. Wade revealed that Sudduth had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, indicating a brutal and targeted attack.

The police chief later disclosed that the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) had identified a vehicle of interest, which had been captured on surveillance footage near both shooting locations. Troopers from the MHP located the vehicle on Kickapoo Road at County Line Road, leading to the subsequent apprehension of the suspect.

Confession and Closure

After being taken into custody, the suspect, identified as Robert Jackson, was interviewed by Jackson police. Chief Wade stated that Jackson confessed to committing both crimes, providing investigators with valuable information to close these cases. The arrest brought some relief to the grieving family of Charles Sudduth, Jr. and also provided solace to the injured victim, who was reported to be in stable condition.

Person of Interest and Appeal for Information

While progress has been made in solving these heinous crimes, Chief Wade mentioned that there was a person of interest in the Sudduth case. However, that individual, Christopher Mize, 44, is currently missing.
