THOOTHUKUDI: In a horrifying incident, a 7-year-old boy was allegedly killed by a 16-year-old after resisting a sexual assault at Vembar Beach in Thoothukudi. The accused has been arrested by Soorgangudi police. The victim’s lifeless body was discovered with cuts to his neck, right in front of his house.

The victim, a second-grade student, had been absent from school for two days due to a fever. The incident occurred early on Wednesday when the victim’s father was at work and his mother was attending a self-help group meeting.

The body was immediately transported to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, where forensic experts were called in to investigate. The 16-year-old suspect, who had dropped out of school, was apprehended near Michael Nagar. A senior police officer stated, “The accused made sexual advances towards the victim, but the child resisted and began screaming. In response, the accused stabbed him in the neck.”

No CCTV Despite Supreme Court Order

The tragic murder took place in close proximity to the Vembar Coastal Security Group police station. However, there were no CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity. It is worth noting that the Supreme Court had mandated the installation of CCTV cameras with night vision and audio recording capabilities at prominent locations, including entry and exit points, in all police stations. Additionally, the footage captured by these cameras must be stored for a duration of 18 months.
