BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – In a shocking incident, a man has been apprehended by law enforcement after allegedly brandishing a knife and impersonating a police officer in Brownwood, Texas. The suspect, identified as 62-year-old Joe Alfonso Martinez from Lamesa, Texas, was also charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.

The incident took place on Saturday, January 6, around 4:20 p.m. when a concerned citizen reported picking up a distressed pedestrian in the 1000 block of Coggin Avenue. The pedestrian claimed to be fleeing from someone who was chasing him.

According to the victim’s statement, the suspect approached him on Durham Avenue and falsely identified himself as a law enforcement officer. Shockingly, the suspect then proceeded to pull out a knife, threatening the pedestrian with harm. Fearful for his safety, the victim fled on foot, concerned about being stabbed by the assailant.
