Investigation Underway for Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — The Oshkosh Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ohio Street and 3rd Avenue around 6:36 PM on Wednesday.

According to a press release from the police department, a vehicle struck a 38-year-old man who was crossing the road, and the driver fled the scene without stopping to provide assistance. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

However, swift action by the Oshkosh Police Department led to the apprehension of a suspect and the recovery of the vehicle believed to be involved in the hit-and-run accident.

Oshkosh Police Department detectives, along with the Accident Investigation Team, are currently working diligently to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. As a result of the ongoing investigation, Ohio Street, between Witzel and 3rd Avenue, has been temporarily closed. Authorities are urging the public to avoid this area until further notice.
