18-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Prince George’s County, Maryland

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. – An unfortunate incident occurred in Prince George’s County on Tuesday night, resulting in the tragic death of an 18-year-old individual. Detectives investigating the case have shared that they do not believe this to be a random act of violence, further intensifying their efforts to apprehend the culprits responsible for the crime.

No suspects have been taken into custody yet, and the police are diligently continuing their investigation into this fatal shooting, which transpired in Capitol Heights.

Authorities swiftly responded to a report of shots fired and a single-car crash in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road at approximately 11:20 p.m. on January 9th.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered the victim inside the vehicle, gravely injured due to a gunshot wound. Immediate medical assistance was provided, and the victim was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the young individual succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Olamide Olakanye, hailing from Upper Marlboro.

Further investigation into the incident unveiled that Olakanye had been shot in the 1200 block of Dunbar Oaks Drive. Despite being wounded, the resilient victim attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle. However, their escape was tragically cut short when they crashed into a wooded area on Sheriff Road.
