Fisherman Killed by Shark in Mexico

A tragic incident occurred last month when a young fisherman lost his life to a shark attack while diving for scallops. Mexican authorities have confirmed the incident.

Mexico News Daily has reported that the victim was identified as 22-year-old Victor Alejandro Soto Garcia. The attack took place on December 29 in the Gulf of California near Playa Tojahui. According to the report, Garcia was attacked by a great white shark.

Tragically, other fishermen discovered Garcia’s body and brought it back to the pier. It was evident that he had suffered a severe wound to his left leg as a result of the shark attack.

According to Civil Protection authorities in Sonora, Garcia did not possess an anti-shark repellent bracelet. This detail emphasizes his vulnerability during the attack. Civil Protection authorities in Sonora wrote on social media.

As per El Financiero newspaper, this incident marks the fifth fatal shark attack off the coast of Sonora within the last two years. It is an alarming trend that raises concerns about the safety of fishermen in the area.

Another tragic incident occurred in early December when a 26-year-old woman lost her life to a shark bite while swimming in Melaque, a beach town near Manzanillo. The woman was attempting to assist her child onto a floating platform when the shark attacked, as reported by CBS News.

Furthermore, in mid-December, a shocking incident took place at a beach in Ixtapa where a 76-year-old tourist from Belgium lost his life and a woman got injured after being attacked by either a shark or a crocodile.
