Cloquet, MN Gunman and Victims at Super 8 Motel Identified
CLOQUET, MN — Police authorities have released the names of the individuals involved in the tragic incident that took place at a Super 8 motel on Monday night.

The shooter has been identified as Nicholas Elliot Lenius, a 32-year-old resident of Ramsey. Sadly, police discovered Lenius dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
One of the victims, found shot dead inside a vehicle in the motel’s parking lot, has been identified as Patrick Jeffrey Roers from Deer River. Roers was tragically killed in the incident.
The hotel clerk, who also fell victim to the shooter, has been identified as Shellby Marie Trettel, a 22-year-old resident of Cloquet. Trettel succumbed to her injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth on the night of the shooting.
The Cloquet Police Department expressed their condolences to the families and friends affected by this devastating incident. In an official statement, they said, “On behalf of the Cloquet Police Department, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends affected by the tragic incident.”

The department, along with their law enforcement partners, is dedicated to conducting a thorough investigation to bring clarity and understanding to the circumstances surrounding this incident as quickly as possible. The incident took place on Monday at approximately 6:30 p.m. when an employee of the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet called 911 to report the attack on Trettel. Upon arrival, the police discovered Roers deceased in a car in the hotel parking lot with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a gun found beside him. Surveillance video footage later confirmed that Roers was the gunman.
