Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charges in Northeast Portland Shooting

Steven Joseph Bricker, 35, enters a plea in court for the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man
Steven Joseph Bricker, a 35-year-old man, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bricker is accused of fatally shooting a 33-year-old man in Northeast Portland in November. The plea was made in response to the allegations, as stated by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Bricker’s arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals Service on Monday. The arrest was made on the grounds of the aforementioned charges, as confirmed by court records. The charges against Bricker include second-degree murder, attempted murder with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. For now, Bricker remains in custody at the Multnomah County jail.

Following his arrest, Bricker was booked into the Multnomah County jail and has remained there since. The trial for the case is scheduled to commence on February 20, according to court records.
The incident occurred on November 21, shortly before 10 p.m. The police received a distress call reporting gunshots in the 4700 block of Northeast 62nd Avenue. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the lifeless body of Eric Bankhead near a residence.
According to witnesses residing in the area, there was a heated argument leading up to the gunfire. Residents reported hearing yelling and what sounded like multiple gunshots. Pete Franklin, one of the witnesses, shared his account with The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Police have not released any specific details regarding the events that transpired prior to the shooting.
Court records reveal that Bricker has a history of criminal convictions spanning over the past 15 years. These convictions include assault, possession of methamphetamine, and harassment.
The trial for Steven Joseph Bricker has been scheduled to commence on February 20, as stated in court records.
