MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – In a distressing incident on Tuesday night, a state trooper was rushed to a local hospital following a collision on I-91 in Meriden, as confirmed by state police.

The Accident

The unfortunate event occurred when the state trooper had parked their vehicle in the left lane on I-91 Southbound near Exit 19. They were providing assistance for a traffic call, when suddenly a 2016 Cadillac Escalade failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and collided with the trooper’s Explorer.

Injuries and Hospitalization

As a result of the crash, the trooper reported potential injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for further examination and treatment. Fortunately, the occupants of the Cadillac did not sustain any injuries.

The Responsible Driver

The driver of the Cadillac has been identified as 20-year-old Luis Sanchez Jr., hailing from Brewster, New York. Sanchez Jr. has been issued an infraction for various traffic violations, including driving too fast for the prevailing conditions, failure to maintain lane, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
