Man Arrested After Hours-Long Chase in Douglas County

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A man was apprehended on Wednesday afternoon after evading arrest for several hours following a high-speed chase in Douglas County, as confirmed by the local sheriff’s office.
Chase Initiated by Deputy
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initiated a traffic stop upon spotting a stolen vehicle being driven on Kings Highway. The driver, identified as Ricky Womack Jr, attempted to flee after suddenly putting his car in reverse and colliding with the front of the deputy’s patrol car, causing significant damage to both vehicles, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
Suspect Escapes into the Woods
Womack managed to escape the scene by driving the stolen vehicle into the nearby woods. Despite an intensive search operation involving a K-9 unit, law enforcement officers were unable to locate him at that time.
Stolen Vehicle Found
Later in the morning, deputies received information about a burglary that had taken place in close proximity. During their investigation, they discovered the stolen Dodge Ram truck at a mobile home in Carroll County.

Suspect Holed Up Inside
Deputies soon determined that Womack was inside the mobile home and armed with a handgun. Although he refused to surrender, law enforcement authorities were able to apprehend him by forcibly removing him from the residence.
Multiple Charges Filed
Womack is now facing a range of charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing from law enforcement, theft by receiving a motor vehicle, and possession of drug-related objects. These charges reflect the seriousness of his actions and the potential threat he posed to the public during the pursuit.
