Investigation Underway After Shooting at Chippenham Hospital’s Mental Health Facility

The Richmond Police Department has launched an investigation following a shooting incident at the mental health facility of Chippenham Hospital, where both a patient and a police officer were injured.

On Friday, December 22, at approximately 4:11 a.m., officers received a distress call reporting a shooting at Tucker’s Pavilion located within Chippenham Hospital.

Responding swiftly to the emergency, nearby officers stationed in the hospital’s emergency area rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a male patient suffering from gunshot wounds, fortunately, non-life-threatening. The victim, later identified as a patient at the hospital, received immediate medical attention.

In addition, authorities successfully located and apprehended the suspected shooter, a 27-year-old man from Glen Allen. The suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without any further incident.

The Richmond Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Further details about the incident, including a possible motive, are yet to be released.
