Investigation Launched into Helicopter Crash in Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park, Canada – The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada has initiated an investigation into a helicopter crash that occurred east of Revelstoke last Friday (Jan. 5). The TSB deployed a team of investigators to Revelstoke on Wednesday (Jan. 10) morning to gather information and examine the incident.

The sole occupant and operator of the aircraft has been identified as Rob Blair. The TSB confirmed that the crashed helicopter was a Bell 206B helicopter. The team of investigators will meticulously analyze the wreckage and other evidence to determine the cause of the crash.

It has been revealed that the aircraft involved in the crash was registered to the Aircraft Guaranty Corporation (AGC), an American company based in Oklahoma City, Okla. AGC is a well-established business, operating for over three decades, specializing in simplifying the aircraft registration and re-registration process for entities unable to meet the stringent requirements set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

However, the owner of AGC, Debbie Mercer-Erwin, has made headlines for reasons unrelated to the company’s operations. In May 2023, Mercer-Erwin was found guilty in a Texas court for various crimes, including money laundering, wire fraud, conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine, and conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States. Her illegal activities were exposed during a high-profile trial, resulting in her conviction.

U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston, from the United States Attorney’s Office, stated, “In the aircraft world, planes registered in the United States and displaying an ‘N’ tail-number, are coveted as being properly vetted and trusted to legally operate around the world. Mercer-Erwin found ways to exploit the registration process in order to profit from illegally obtained money being paid for her services.”

The TSB has refrained from providing a specific timeline for reporting their findings from the investigation in Revelstoke. However, it is expected that the team of investigators will diligently work towards uncovering the circumstances that led to this tragic helicopter crash.
