“Florida Trooper Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on I-75: New Dashcam Footage Reveals Incident”

(WSVN) – Recently released dashcam footage from a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser has revealed the shocking moment when a trooper was struck by a hit-and-run driver, resulting in injuries for both parties involved. The incident occurred on January 2nd at approximately 7 a.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Indian Trace in Weston.

The dashcam video captured the harrowing sequence of events, showing Trooper Robinson being rear-ended by a black Porsche. Authorities stated that the trooper was driving along when the headlights of the speeding Porsche approached from behind. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Robinson swerved to the right, but unfortunately, the front of the Porsche collided with the rear left side of the cruiser.

The impact of the crash was severe, causing visible damage to the trooper’s vehicle on the back and front left side. As a result, the cruiser veered into the median barrier. The rear-facing camera in the trooper’s vehicle also recorded the moment of impact.

In a surprising turn of events, the hit-and-run driver was identified as 49-year-old Ricardo Jimenez. The dashcam footage clearly showed Jimenez hitting the trooper’s cruiser, and the side camera captured the SUV subsequently colliding with a car carrier, causing significant damage to the Porsche.

After his vehicle sustained damage, Jimenez fled the scene on foot, sparking a massive manhunt involving Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and FHP troopers. The search concluded shortly before 9 a.m. when Jimenez was apprehended and taken into custody by deputies. Due to his injuries, he was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Trooper Robinson was visibly injured and appeared to be in distress while inside his cruiser. He suffered from head, neck, and knee pain. Fortunately, he was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for treatment and is expected to recover fully.

Following his release from the hospital, Jimenez was transferred to Broward County Jail, where he faces several charges. These charges include failure to stop at an accident with non-serious injuries, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, leaving the scene of an accident without providing identification, and resisting arrest without violence. Jimenez has since posted bail and has been released from jail.
