Tragic Accident Claims the Life of a Man in Elysian Township

LE CENTER, Minn. (KEYC) – A devastating incident occurred in an Elysian Township neighborhood on Tuesday, resulting in the untimely death of a man who collided with a tree.

According to a press release from the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office, the authorities, along with Elysian Fire and Rescue, swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a motor vehicle crash in Elysian Township. The incident took place on Tetonka Lake Road at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a 2003 Ford Taurus that had veered off the road, traversed through a nearby ditch, and ultimately crashed into a large tree within a residential yard. The impact caused significant damage to the front side of the vehicle.

The deceased driver has been identified as Elvin Leigh Wehking, a 57-year-old resident of rural Janesville.

Efforts were immediately undertaken to extricate Wehking from the wreckage. Despite the tireless attempts made by the Rescue Squad and Ambulance Personnel to treat him, Wehking was regrettably pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office has stated that there is no evidence of impairment by the driver, and the road was devoid of any snow, eliminating weather-related factors as potential causes of the accident.

The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing, as authorities strive to determine the precise cause that led to this tragic incident.
