Accident – Death – Obituary News : Cocoa Woman Arrested for Robbery at Local Convenience Store

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A Cocoa woman found herself behind bars on Sunday following a reported robbery at a nearby convenience store, as confirmed by the local police department.

According to the police, they received a distress call around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, summoning them to the store located at 2009 N. Cocoa Blvd. Upon arrival, officers were informed that two women, identified as Mercy Thomas, 23, and Timetrea Smith, 28, had entered the store and began causing havoc by throwing food items and damaging merchandise.

Surveillance footage revealed that Thomas had engaged in a heated argument with a couple present in the store before resorting to hurling a container of mac-and-cheese and some potato wedges onto the floor. The disruptive behavior continued when Thomas pushed over a container of pickled sausages, causing them to scatter across the store, as detailed in the affidavit.

In a shocking turn of events, Thomas seized the opportunity to snatch the wife’s iPhone after being threatened with police intervention. She then fled the scene, yelling something and pointing towards a nearby road, as if indicating that she had thrown the phone there, according to the affidavit.

Undeterred, the courageous husband managed to jot down the license plate number of Thomas’ car. In a desperate attempt to prevent the culprits from escaping, he opened the car door to disable the vehicle. However, Smith intervened by assaulting him, repeatedly punching him in the head, forcing him to retreat.

As the husband tried to distance himself from the altercation, Thomas unexpectedly struck him from behind. The two women promptly fled the scene in their car, leaving the victims in shock and disbelief.

During a subsequent interview with the police, Thomas admitted to taking the wife’s phone, further confirming their suspicions. Consequently, Thomas was apprehended, facing multiple charges including robbery, battery, criminal mischief, and hindering communications with law enforcement.

Following her arrest, Thomas was released later that Sunday afternoon after posting a bond of $8,000.
