Kent Bank Employee Accused of Stealing Over $100,000 from Elderly Clients

KENT, CT — A shocking case has been reported in Kent, Connecticut, where a bank employee has been accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from multiple elderly clients of Webster Bank. Connecticut State Police have been investigating this incident since June, after receiving a complaint from a representative of Webster Bank.

The representative informed the police about the theft of funds from the Webster Bank branch located on North Main Street in Kent. The alleged perpetrator, identified as Arron Parsons, a 44-year-old resident of Kent and an employee of Webster Bank, was being investigated for stealing money from elderly banking clients.

According to a news release by the Connecticut State Police, the initial investigation by the bank revealed unusual account activity, specifically increased cash withdrawals from the savings account of one of the elderly clients at the Kent branch. The Banking Center Manager noticed that the handwriting on the withdrawal tickets resembled Parsons’ handwriting, rather than the client’s. Further scrutiny of security camera footage confirmed that the elderly client was not present at the bank during the transactions. The transactions conducted by Parsons were identified by his employee identification number.

Upon questioning by bank investigators, Parsons admitted to conducting the unauthorized cash withdrawals that were identified during the investigation. He also revealed the names of the clients whose accounts he had withdrawn funds from. Parsons claimed that he had deposited the funds into his own bank account for personal use. However, he expressed remorse and stated his intention to reimburse the funds he had taken, mentioning that he had already returned a portion of the money to one of the clients.

Police conducted a thorough review of Parsons’ accounts and discovered that between September 2022 and February 2023, his accounts were primarily funded through ATM and over-the-counter cash deposits. They found several cash deposits that coincided with the amounts of the unauthorized cash withdrawals made by Parsons on specific days.

The investigation further revealed that from February 22, 2022, to February 21, 2023, Parsons had conducted approximately 39 unauthorized withdrawals from five different accounts held by clients of the Banking Center. The total amount stolen exceeded $100,000. Webster Bank representatives contacted all five affected clients, who confirmed that the transactions were conducted without their consent.

Webster Bank promptly reimbursed the affected clients for the unauthorized withdrawals. The investigating Trooper was provided with security video footage showing Parsons seemingly completing withdrawal tickets during times when the affected clients were not present. After analyzing the evidence and information provided by the bank, the Troopers applied for an arrest warrant for Arron Parsons.

Arron Parsons was arrested on January 5 and has been charged with first-degree larceny. He is currently being held in custody on a bond of $160,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

This incident serves as a reminder to be vigilant and cautious when it comes to banking transactions, especially for vulnerable individuals such as the elderly. Banks and financial institutions must continue to implement stringent security measures to protect their clients’ funds and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
