Man Critically Injured in Car Collision in Stamford

A pedestrian was left in critical condition after being struck by a car in Stamford on Tuesday evening, according to local authorities.

Investigation by Stamford Police Department

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad of the Stamford Police Department is currently investigating a severe motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision that took place around 5:14 p.m. on West Main Street near Fairfield Avenue.

Details of the Incident

Stamford police reported that the incident involved a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by a 73-year-old resident of Stamford. The vehicle was traveling east on West Main Street while a pedestrian was crossing from south to north.

Unfortunately, the motor vehicle collided with the pedestrian, identified as a 46-year-old man from Stamford, knocking him to the ground.

Severe Injuries and Hospitalization

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian sustained critical injuries. Stamford police confirmed that he was immediately transported to Stamford Hospital. Upon arrival, he was admitted to the intensive care unit on Tuesday and his condition is currently listed as critical but stable.

Driver Cooperation and Investigation

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to Stamford police.

Initial investigations suggest that the pedestrian may not have been within a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision. Furthermore, the rainy conditions and poor visibility during the incident may have played a role in the accident, as stated by the police.
