The incident occurred on December 28 in the 900 block of St. Michaels Drive in the unincorporated section of Bowie. Police responded to the scene around 3:05 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones inside a car with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations revealed that Barnes and Jones had a dispute which led to the fatal shooting. Both individuals were known to each other through mutual acquaintances, according to the police. Surveillance footage from the surrounding area captured the incident, showing Jones being chased out of a house by Barnes just moments before the shooting took place.

The charging documents detailed the interaction between Barnes and Jones, as captured by the surveillance video. Jones can be heard saying, “I didn’t do anything, bro,” while Barnes asks, “Why are you running?” Following a brief altercation, Jones got into a blue Tesla, and Barnes fired shots through the windshield, ultimately resulting in Jones’ death.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Aisha Braveboy, expressed her concerns regarding the incident and emphasized the importance of addressing youth violence and preventing such tragic shootings. Braveboy highlighted the need to hold juveniles accountable for violent crimes in order to reduce gun violence among young individuals.
