SALISBURY, Md. – A woman has been arrested and is now in custody following a fatal stabbing that occurred earlier this month.

The incident took place on January 2nd, at around 6:30 a.m. in the 800 block of South Division Street in Salisbury, Maryland. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the victim, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Mapes, who had sustained a stab wound. Mapes was immediately transported to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional for medical treatment. However, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on January 6th.

Authorities were able to swiftly identify and apprehend the suspect, 20-year-old Trenee Gattis, at the scene of the crime. Gattis was initially charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, concealment of a dangerous weapon, and reckless endangerment. However, following the victim’s death, the police are now considering additional homicide charges pending consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Currently, Gattis is being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
