A 28-year-old woman from San Rafael was taken into custody on Monday as the primary suspect in the tragic stabbing incident that resulted in the death of her mother. The San Rafael Police Department confirmed the arrest in a press statement released on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex located on Cresta Way in the Terra Linda district of San Rafael. Authorities received a distress call reporting a fight and potential stabbing in progress.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a woman standing on a balcony, clutching a bloodied knife and wearing clothes soaked in blood. Next to her was another woman who had sustained stab wounds. Despite repeated commands from the police, the woman refused to respond. Consequently, additional officers were called in to gain entry into the apartment forcefully and apprehend the suspect.

Firefighters, who were also summoned to the location, immediately provided first aid to the victim before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the 55-year-old woman succumbed to her extensive injuries approximately ninety minutes after arriving at the medical facility.

The suspect has been identified as Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, a resident of San Rafael. Police have confirmed that Beltran is the victim’s daughter. She has been arrested and charged with murder. Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal incident, and the San Rafael Police Department is collaborating with the Marin County Coroner’s Office in their homicide investigation.
