Successful Operations Lead to Apprehension of Suspects and Recovery of Stolen Vehicles

In two separate operations conducted in Masaka and Mukono, the FSU apprehended three alleged notorious car thieves and successfully retrieved two vehicles, along with multiple license plates believed to be from stolen cars, in separate operations in the districts of Masaka and Mukono.

One of the suspects identified as Faruku Lukyamuzi, 28, was arrested during a burial ceremony in Butale village, Masaka, on January 3, 2024, where Police officers from Bukoto Police were present to ensure security.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga reported that the officers closely observed three individuals who were believed to be potential thieves targeting the parked motor vehicles at the event.

The officers acted swiftly and successfully apprehended a suspect named Lukyamuzi, a land broker from Kyengera town council in Wakiso. Lukyamuzi later cooperated with the officers and helped them locate the stolen motor vehicle, a grey Toyota Premio with registration number UAK 762T, as well as the tools used for breaking, which were subsequently seized.

During the search, a variety of vehicle number plates were discovered concealed beneath the car seats.

During the January 8, 2024, weekly joint security briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Enanga informed reporters that on January 5, 2024, the Flying Squad Unit in Masaka also pursued two alleged suspected criminals in a motor vehicle with a counterfeit license plate bearing the number UBM 858N.

In the process of the chase, Enanga said the team shot and deflated the vehicle’s tyres near Petrol Station along Masaka-Kyotera road, causing the vehicle to come to a stop.

One individual, Edward Ddamulira, a 40-year-old resident of Kirumbi zone, Nateete Kampala, was apprehended.

During interrogation, the suspect is alleged to have confessed to how they utilize master keys to carry out thefts of valuable items from crowded locations, hotels, markets, and vehicles parked on the sides of roads within Greater Kampala area as well as other cities and major towns.

Enanga, in his statement, revealed that the investigations show that the suspect was picked up by two of his accomplices from Kyengera.

Their intended destination was Masaka city, where they had already broken into two motor vehicles.

One incident occurred in Nabyewanga, where they stole a bag containing clothes, while the other incident took place in Lukaya town, where they stole an Infinix mobile phone.

Enanga said their motor vehicle was using a fake license plate UBM 858N, which was affixed over the genuine plate UBA 858N.

In Mukono, the Police successfully apprehended another suspected notorious car thief named John Wandera, also known as Katiginyi, from Namubiru village, Nama sub-county.

He was allegedly caught in the act of selling a suspected stolen vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Canter with registration number UBE 973W.

Wandera along with his other partners in crime, allegedly stole the vehicle from Nsangi in Wakiso district.

However, the remaining accomplices are currently evading capture.

Investigations indicate that the racket has been allegedly selling the stolen motor vehicles to one Siraje in Iganga and Brian of Bwaise who all are wanted.

“Also recovered are a motor vehicle registration UBB 071U and motorcycle registration number UFL 975H, and a Toyota Premio Super with a fake number plate UAW 025L.

Enanga said further investigations revealed that once the motor vehicles are stolen, the perpetrators proceed to modify the chassis number, color, and number plate.

He stated that the ongoing operation aims to apprehend and dismantle the entire criminal organization and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice in the courts of law.
