CEDAR RAPIDS POLICE OFFICERS IDENTIFIED IN FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — The five police officers involved in a tragic officer-involved shooting on New Year’s Day in Cedar Rapids have now been identified, as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Officers Involved

The officers who were present during the incident have been identified as Sergeant Graham Campshure, Officer Loren Culver, Officer Christopher Hettinger, Officer Jonathan McDowell, and Officer Dylan Hall.

Details of the Incident

The shooting occurred after a car chase, during which 20-year-old Michael Griffin, a resident of Cedar Rapids, exchanged gunfire with the police. Unfortunately, Griffin succumbed to his injuries. The exact cause of his death is yet to be determined, pending the release of autopsy results.

Passenger Identity

The passenger who was in the vehicle during the initial shots-fired report and later got out during the pursuit has been identified as a minor. Due to legal restrictions, the identity of the minor cannot be disclosed at this time.

It’s worth noting that the passenger was not present during the eventual gunfire from the police at the end of the chase.

Officer Status and Cooperation

As per protocol, the Cedar Rapids officers involved in the incident have been placed on critical incident leave. This allows them time to recover and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

The officers have been fully cooperative with the authorities thus far and are providing their accounts of the events leading up to the tragic shooting.
