Accident – death – Obituary News : Tragic Accident Claims Life of Maryland Air National Guard Servicemember in Middle River Crash

BALTIMORE, January 9, 2024 – Last week, a Maryland Air National Guard servicemember lost her life in a devastating crash that occurred in Middle River. The incident took place on January 3 at approximately 10 p.m., when authorities responded to the scene in the 3000 block of Eastern Boulevard.

According to investigators, 30-year-old Lacy O’Neill was driving her car, attempting to enter Eastern Boulevard from a parking lot when her vehicle was struck by another car. The impact of the collision proved fatal for O’Neill, who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was sadly pronounced dead. The other driver involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Maryland Air National Guard, known as the 175th Wing, issued a statement on Sunday, confirming the tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Lacy L. O’Neill, a dedicated member who had served since 2014. O’Neill was a security forces craftsman assigned to the 175th Security Forces Squadron, and she had most recently been serving as a drill status Guard member.

O’Neill’s commitment to her duty was commendable, as she had been deployed multiple times throughout her career, including missions in Kuwait and New Jersey. Her exceptional service was recognized with prestigious awards such as the Air and Space Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air and Space Longevity Service Award.

In a heartfelt Facebook statement, Maryland Air National Guard Capt. Allison Fleming expressed her admiration for O’Neill, describing her as a remarkable person and an exceptional troop. Capt. Fleming emphasized O’Neill’s positive attitude, resilience, love, and reliability, highlighting her role as an incredible supervisor to junior Airmen.

“Lacy had a vibrant personality and was a beloved friend to everyone in the squadron. She was quick to laugh and tease, but also endlessly kind and thoughtful,” Capt. Fleming continued. “Losing her is a devastating blow to the squadron, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Lacy.”

The tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Lacy O’Neill has left the Maryland Air National Guard community in mourning. Her selfless dedication and exceptional service will forever be remembered.
