Man Arrested and Charged in Connection to New Year’s Night Shooting in Henrico County

Details emerge in a tragic incident that left one woman dead and another in critical condition

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Authorities have apprehended and charged a suspect in connection to a shooting that occurred on New Year’s night, resulting in the death of one woman and leaving another fighting for her life. The Henrico County Police Division has identified the suspect as 33-year-old Rajahn Altariq Heath, a resident of the Richmond area.

During an extensive investigation conducted by the Henrico County Police Division, Rajahn Altariq Heath was identified as the primary suspect. On the morning of Tuesday, January 9, Heath was arraigned in Essex County, New Jersey. He is currently being held on an “Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution” warrant and is awaiting extradition to Henrico County.

Heath has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additionally, he faces two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The tragic incident occurred shortly before midnight on January 1, at the 2000 block of Montbrook Lane. The shooting claimed the life of 34-year-old Shante Jones from Henrico County. Another victim, who remains unidentified, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition.
