Philadelphia Man Identified as Driver in Head-On Collision on Route 662

A horrific accident occurred on Monday morning in Amity Township, as a sedan driven by a Philadelphia man collided head-on with an SUV on Route 662. The collision took place while the sedan was attempting to overtake a truck, resulting in injuries to both drivers involved in the tragic incident, according to investigators.
Immediately following the crash, firefighters swiftly removed both drivers from their vehicles, ensuring their safety amidst the wreckage. The Amity police were promptly notified and arrived at the scene to commence their investigation.
One significant challenge faced by the authorities was the identification of the sedan driver. Due to the absence of any form of identification on his person, it took several hours before the driver was officially identified as Luis Lopez, a 36-year-old resident of Philadelphia.
Both Lopez and the SUV driver, identified as Amanda Hawver, a 40-year-old from Blandon, were immediately transported to Reading Hospital via ambulance to receive medical attention for their injuries. While Lopez remained in the hospital as of late Tuesday morning, no further information was available regarding Hawver’s current condition.

As a result of the collision, Route 662, commonly known as Old Swede Road, was temporarily closed between Old Airport Road and Weavertown Lane for approximately one hour on Monday morning. The closure was necessary to facilitate the clearing of the accident site and to allow investigators to gather crucial evidence.
