Funeral Services to be Held for Columbus Grove High School Student

LIMA — Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday to mourn the loss of a Columbus Grove High School student who tragically lost his life on Sunday due to a shooting incident in Allen County.

Grant Siefker, a 15-year-old, was one of two teenagers in the area who were victims of gun-related accidents on Sunday. Another Wapakoneta teenager was seriously injured in a separate incident, which the police believe does not involve foul play.

The Columbus Grove and Wapakoneta communities have come together on Facebook to express their support for Siefker and the Wapakoneta teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed. The Ottawa-Glandorf High School Facebook page has urged residents of Putnam and Auglaize counties to unite by wearing red in honor and remembrance of Grant Siefker and the Wapakoneta student involved in the tragic accident. This symbolic act aims to convey the love and support for both families and all those affected by these heartbreaking events.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 11000 block of Slabtown Road shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, members of the Putnam County EMS were already present, administering life-saving procedures to a 15-year-old male, later identified as Siefker. Despite their efforts, Siefker succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

The property where the incident occurred is owned by Bryan and Kate Blue. Kate Blue, listed as Siefker’s aunt, is mentioned in his obituary.

Another 15-year-old male, who is a family member of both the victim and the suspect, was apprehended at the scene and is currently detained at the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center in connection with the incident. The circumstances leading to the shooting are still under investigation, as stated by Major Andre McConnahea of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

Visitation for Siefker will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove. The family has requested that visitors wear their favorite sports attire. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Columbus Grove, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

According to his obituary, Siefker was actively involved in his community. He served as a Mass server at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, was a member of the 4-H Club and the Leo Club, and participated in football, basketball, and track as a Columbus Grove Bulldogs athlete. He had a passion for farming, enjoyed hunting, and was a devoted fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Houston Texans.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Columbus Grove Livestock 4-H Club.
