A 33-year-old man from Georgia was apprehended last week for his alleged involvement in a preplanned and premeditated attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. Donovan Carter, dressed as a delivery driver, reportedly lured Kenneth Cunningham out of his apartment on his birthday and fatally shot him.

Authorities have charged Carter with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The Marietta Police Department, in a press release, stated that officers responded to a shooting incident outside an apartment complex on Cobb Parkway South. Cunningham, aged 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that Cunningham was a resident of the apartment building and had just stepped out when he was attacked. The Cobb County Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, and Cobb County Sheriff’s Office joined forces to investigate the incident.

Witnesses reported seeing a slender male, approximately six feet tall, fleeing the scene immediately after the gunshots. Authorities confirmed that Cunningham was specifically targeted and that the shooting was not a random act of violence.

Carter was apprehended later that night when his vehicle was pulled over. He was subsequently booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Police later revealed that Carter had meticulously planned the assassination, even disguising himself as a delivery driver to lure Cunningham out of his apartment.

Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy stated, “The suspect intentionally drove over an hour to this location, premeditated, and planned this event, posing as a delivery driver. (Carter then) lured the victim out of his residence and then proceeded to shoot him multiple times.”

According to McPhilamy, Cunningham was expecting a package on the day of the shooting, which Carter used as a ruse to draw him out of his apartment. Carter’s ex-girlfriend is not believed to be involved in the fatal shooting.

Reflecting on Carter’s arrest, McPhilamy praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies, stating, “You had six different agencies all working together to hold this individual accountable. And if it weren’t for all of their efforts… if this were solved, it certainly would not have been solved in the short amount of hours.”

A 33-year-old man from Georgia was taken into custody last week following a meticulously planned and premeditated attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. Donovan Carter, disguised as a delivery driver, enticed Kenneth Cunningham out of his apartment on his birthday and proceeded to lethally shoot him.

The Marietta Police Department has charged Carter with multiple offenses, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. According to a press release, officers responded to a shooting incident outside a residential complex located on Cobb Parkway South. Cunningham, aged 40, was found lying on the ground outside the complex, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that Cunningham resided in the same apartment building where he was tragically attacked. Responding to the incident, the Cobb County Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, and Cobb County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the ongoing investigation.

Witnesses provided crucial information, describing a tall and slender male fleeing the scene immediately after the gunshots were heard. Authorities confirmed that Cunningham was specifically targeted, ruling out the possibility of a random act of violence.

Later that night, law enforcement officers pulled over Carter’s vehicle, leading to his arrest. Subsequently, he was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Police later revealed that Carter had meticulously planned the assassination, going as far as disguising himself as a delivery driver to lure Cunningham out of his apartment.

Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy emphasized the premeditation involved in the crime, stating, “The suspect intentionally drove over an hour to this location, premeditated, and planned this event, posing as a delivery driver. (Carter then) lured the victim out of his residence and then proceeded to shoot him multiple times.”

McPhilamy disclosed that Cunningham was expecting a package on the day of the shooting, which Carter exploited as a means to deceive him. Notably, Carter’s ex-girlfriend is not considered a suspect in the fatal shooting.

Speaking about Carter’s arrest, McPhilamy commended the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, noting, “You had six different agencies all working together to hold this individual accountable. And if it weren’t for all of their efforts… if this were solved, it certainly would not have been solved in the short amount of hours.”
