Tel Aviv, January 9, 2024 – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced today the unfortunate demise of four additional soldiers in the ongoing conflict against Hamas in Gaza, bringing the total number of troops killed in the ground offensive to 180.

The fallen soldiers have been identified as Sergeant Roi Tal, aged 19, from the Kfir Brigade’s 94th Duchifat Battalion; Sergeant First Class (res.) David Schwartz, aged 26, and Sergeant First Class (res.) Yakir Hexter, aged 26, both from the Combat Engineering Corp’s 8219th Battalion; and Sergeant First Class (res.) Gavriel Bloom, aged 27, a combat engineer in the 36th Division.

While Yehoshua, Schwartz, and Hexter were tragically killed in southern Gaza, Bloom lost his life in central Gaza, according to the IDF.

The military further informed that during the same battle where Schwartz and Hexter were martyred, another soldier from the Combat Engineering Corp’s 8219th Battalion sustained severe injuries.

Additionally, an officer and two other reserve combat engineers from the 36th Division were seriously wounded in the fighting that claimed Bloom’s life, the IDF added.

Furthermore, two officers from the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade sustained serious injuries in central Gaza.

As the IDF has intensified its ground offensive, which was initiated on October 27, 2023, it has nearly gained control of the northern region in Gaza.

Meanwhile, intense battles continue to persist in both central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip.

The October 7, 2023 Hamas attack has resulted in over 1,200 casualties in Israel, while at least 23,084 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza.
