Accident – death – Obituary News : Four individuals, including two forest rangers, tragically lost their lives, and a female warden is currently missing following an unfortunate accident involving an electric vehicle (EV) during a trial ride in the Chilla range of Uttarakhand’s Rajaji Tiger Reserve on Monday night.
The rescue operation persisted late into the night, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) issuing a statement on Tuesday morning. According to the SDRF, there were a total of ten individuals in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Five injured individuals were promptly admitted to AIIMS, Rishikesh for immediate medical attention. Simultaneously, the force has initiated an extensive search operation to locate the missing warden, who unfortunately fell into the Chilla canal.

The deceased victims have been identified as forest range officers Shailesh Ghildiyal and Pramod Dhyani, as well as Saif Ali Khan and Kulraj Singh. A wildlife protector named Aloki is still unaccounted for.
Among the injured individuals are Govind Singh, the son of Himanshu Gosai who was present in the vehicle, along with doctor Rakesh Nautiyal, Ankush, Amit Semwal, and Ashwin Biju. Kulraj and Ankush are reportedly employees of a vehicle manufacturing company.
According to authorities, the accident occurred when an interceptor vehicle, primarily used for patrolling and animal rescue, was being tested in the Chilla range. While the EV was en route from Chilla to Rishikesh, it collided with a tree near the Chilla Power House and subsequently crashed into the parapet of the Chilla Shakti Canal. The impact resulted in some occupants falling into a ditch, while Aloki fell into the canal itself.
Other motorists who were traveling behind the EV promptly alerted the police and park administration about the accident, leading to the immediate commencement of the rescue operation. Police officers and forest department personnel successfully extricated the injured individuals from the ditch and swiftly transported them to AIIMS. Unfortunately, medical professionals at the hospital declared four individuals deceased.

In their statement, the SDRF declared, “Under the leadership of Manikant Mishra, Commandant SDRF, a search operation was conducted throughout the night to locate a female officer who went missing during the vehicle accident in Chilla Canal. After assessing the incident site, Commandant SDRF identified crucial areas for an effective search where there is a high likelihood of success. He also provided necessary instructions to SDRF deep divers.”
On Tuesday morning, SDRF’s deep diving experts resumed the search operation in the Shakti Canal. As part of the operation, the flow of water in the Chilla canal has been temporarily halted until further notice, enabling the divers to thoroughly explore the canal’s bed.
