Police officers arrived at the scene and gathered information suggesting that the suspect had inflicted a gunshot wound upon himself during or immediately after the robbery.

Upon reviewing the store’s surveillance footage, law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect, Otero, had indeed sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Meanwhile, news reached the police that a man had entered Yale New Haven Hospital seeking medical treatment for a gunshot injury, which was later identified to be Otero.

Identification and Charges

Investigators swiftly established Manuel Otero’s connection to the armed robbery and subsequently declared him responsible for the crime. Fortunately, Otero’s gunshot wound was not life-threatening, and hospital staff managed to stabilize his condition.

Legal Consequences

As a result of his actions, Otero now faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment. Additionally, Otero was also arrested based on an existing warrant for his failure to appear in court on a previous charge.
