Beloved Bagel Shop Co-Founder Fatally Shot in Faubourg Marigny Neighborhood

New Orleans, United States – A tragic incident unfolded in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood last week when a man was fatally shot. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jacob (Jake) Carter, the beloved co-founder of a bagel shop in Tacoma, Washington. Carter was visiting New Orleans with his husband when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The New Orleans Police Department has yet to make an arrest in connection with the killing of Jacob Carter. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s office confirmed that Carter was the man who was shot to death last Friday around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bourbon and Kerlerec streets.

According to sources, the shooting appears to be linked to an attempted armed robbery while Carter was walking with his husband. The incident has left the community in shock and sadness.

One neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed concern about the incident. They mentioned that the area witnesses heavy foot traffic due to the proximity of popular spots like Bourbon Street and Frenchmen Street, including the R Bar.

Recalling the moment of the shooting, the neighbor said they were watching TV when they heard a loud noise outside. Stepping onto their porch, they witnessed Carter’s husband desperately performing CPR on the victim.

“It’s truly heartbreaking,” the neighbor said. “I feel deep sorrow and have been praying for him all day long.”

Jacob Carter was known for his kindness, warmth, and genuine care towards everyone he met. An Instagram post from the Howdy Bagel account, the shop Carter and his husband recently opened, paid tribute to him. The post described Carter as a bright spot in the lives of those he loved and expressed the immeasurable loss the community now faces.

In response to the tragedy, the bagel shop has temporarily closed its doors. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the affected employees, and it has already raised over $150,000.

The Marigny neighbor, reflecting on the incident, expressed their fear and empathy for Carter’s husband, who was desperately trying to save him. They conveyed the haunting screams they heard, which will forever remain etched in their memory.
