SAN DIEGO — A 36-year-old woman has been arrested for an assault that resulted in the death of a 75-year-old man in City Heights, San Diego. The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) apprehended Dulce Amaya, who is suspected of elder abuse, early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on November 17, 2023, when officers responded to a home on Chamoune Avenue after receiving reports of an elderly man being assaulted.

According to the SDPD, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews found the victim, identified as Raymond Corn, 75, alone and injured on the floor of his home. He was immediately transported to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on November 28, 2023.

Following the discovery of Corn’s injuries, detectives from SDPD’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the incident due to the “unusual circumstances” surrounding his death. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Corn had sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries that were inconsistent with a fall, indicating that he had been physically assaulted.

During their investigation, detectives determined that Corn had been a victim of physical elder abuse by a woman he had befriended in the months leading up to his death. The woman, identified as Dulce Amaya, was apprehended at 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday at a convenience store on El Cajon Blvd following a tip received by the police.
