Officer Involved Shooting in Barbour County, Alabama: Suspect Arrested and Charged

BARBOUR COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL)— The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has provided additional information regarding an officer involved shooting incident that occurred over the weekend in Barbour County, Alabama.

Both ALEA and the State Bureau of Investigation are currently conducting separate investigations into the matter.

The incident took place when an officer from the Eufaula Police Department and a Deputy Fire Marshal from the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office were on patrol in West Barbour County near U.S. 431. Their presence in the area was in response to a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old.

During the patrol, Patrick Brooks, a 49-year-old resident of Eufaula, fired multiple shots in the direction of the officers’ vehicles. The gunfire caused damage to both the Eufaula Police Officer’s vehicle and the Deputy Fire Marshal’s vehicle. Fortunately, neither of the officers sustained any injuries.

Following the incident, Patrick Brooks was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement authorities. He has been charged with the serious offenses of shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted murder.

Patrick Brooks is currently being held in custody at the Barbour County Jail without the option of posting bond, pending further legal proceedings.

ALEA has confirmed that the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and all relevant information will be handed over to the Barbour County District Attorney’s Office for further action.
