Tragedy Strikes in Alabama

In Houston County, Alabama, the storm took a tragic turn when an 81-year-old woman lost her life. Charlotte Paschal, the mother-in-law of a Houston County deputy, was killed when a suspected tornado struck her mobile home in Cottonwood. According to Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd, the twister caused the mobile home to roll over multiple times, with Paschal seeking refuge in her bathroom. She resided in one of the areas severely affected by the storm.

Meanwhile, in metro Atlanta, a man lost his life when a tree fell on his car during the storm. According to Clayton County police, the incident occurred on Highway 54/Fayetteville Road. The tree crashed through the front windshield, resulting in the man’s immediate death. No other individuals were present in the vehicle at the time of the tragic accident.

The storm in Atlanta also caused widespread havoc, with numerous downed trees, power outages, floods, and car crashes. The torrential rain prompted a ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for a period.

Florida Panhandle’s Devastation

In the Florida Panhandle, a tornado struck Marianna RV Park, causing significant destruction and leaving seven individuals with minor injuries. Homes at Florida Caverns RV Park along U.S. 90 were heavily damaged or destroyed by the devastating twister. Search and recovery efforts were assisted by crews from southern Alabama.

Bay County also witnessed tornadoes on the ground, as reported by Sheriff Tommy Ford in a brief Facebook Live post. The east end of Panama City Beach suffered substantial damage, with one home torn off its foundation.

In anticipation of severe weather, some schools along the coast opted to close. Furthermore, several roads in Sevier County, Tennessee, were closed due to flooding, leading to the opening of shelters, as reported by WVLT.

In a separate weather event, Midwestern cities experienced a grinding halt due to more than half a foot of snow, causing widespread disruption.
