27-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Homicide in Denver

DENVER, Colorado – Anissa Johnson, a 27-year-old woman, has been taken into custody and is facing charges of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of a 64-year-old man. The victim was found dead in his home on January 2. The authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

The investigation began when concerned individuals contacted the police on January 1 and 2, requesting a welfare check on the man residing in an apartment in the 1200 block of Washington Street. Family and friends had been unable to reach him since Christmas, raising concerns about his well-being.

Officers initially responded to the apartment complex on January 1 but were unable to gain access. They were then asked to conduct a follow-up check on January 2. Prior to the second welfare check, a maintenance worker and another individual entered the apartment after noticing a foul odor. They discovered the lifeless body of the man lying on the floor.

The two individuals immediately dialed 911, and the police promptly arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. Investigators found evidence of a struggle within the apartment, suggesting a violent altercation took place.

The autopsy revealed that the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds to his back, indicating a brutal attack. Additionally, a defensive cut was found on his hand, suggesting he had tried to protect himself during the assault.

According to statements given to the police, two neighbors reported hearing a female voice yelling and doors slamming in the victim’s apartment. However, they were unsure of the exact time of the disturbance.

Surveillance footage analyzed by investigators showed the victim entering the apartment complex on December 23 at approximately 9:41 p.m. He was accompanied by an unidentified female. Around midnight on December 24, the same female was observed leaving the building alone, carrying what appeared to be a knife.

During their investigation, authorities came across a photograph of Anissa Johnson, who bore a striking resemblance to the unknown female captured on the surveillance footage. Consequently, Johnson was located and arrested on January 5.

The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the homicide. If you have any information relating to this case, please contact the local authorities.
