Tragic Accident Claims the Life of a 2-Year-Old in Bowling Green, Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a devastating incident near Greenwood High School, a 2-year-old child lost their life, and the driver responsible for the crash is now facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence.

The Bowling Green Police Department received a distress call on Saturday, Jan. 6, regarding a collision on Scottsville Road at Cypress Wood Lane. Upon arrival, officers found one vehicle had been rear-ended, while another vehicle was positioned against a utility pole.

Authorities have identified the adult driver of the second vehicle as 32-year-old Jorge Lopez Iturbide.

According to the police, Iturbide’s vehicle collided with another vehicle carrying three individuals, including an adult driver, a 5-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

At the crash site, emergency responders performed CPR on the unresponsive 2-year-old, while the 5-year-old sustained multiple injuries. Both children were immediately rushed to a hospital in Nashville for medical treatment.

Fortunately, the adult driver of the vehicle with the two children appeared to be uninjured, as reported by the authorities.

Tragically, on Monday night, the 2-year-old succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

Iturbide, who is currently hospitalized, is under the supervision of Bowling Green police officers. Once discharged, he will be taken into custody and transferred to the Warren County Detention Center.

The charges against Iturbide include murder, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, driving without an operator’s license, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

The adult driver of the second vehicle has been identified as 32-year-old Jorge Lopez Iturbide. Police state that Iturbide’s vehicle collided with another vehicle that was occupied by an adult driver, a 5-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

Emergency responders immediately administered CPR to the unresponsive 2-year-old at the scene, while the 5-year-old sustained multiple injuries. Both children were swiftly transported to a hospital in Nashville for urgent medical treatment. Fortunately, the adult driver of the vehicle with the two children appeared to be unharmed.

Tragically, on Monday night, the 2-year-old succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash, devastating their family and the community.

Currently, Iturbide remains in the hospital under the watchful eye of Bowling Green police officers. Once he is discharged, he will be taken into custody and transferred to the Warren County Detention Center for further legal proceedings.
