Tragic Accident in Boulder County Claims the Life of an 18-Year-Old

DENVER (KDVR) — A devastating car crash in unincorporated Boulder County has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old and left a 16-year-old with serious injuries. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) reported that the incident occurred on January 2nd at 11:59 p.m. in the vicinity of Niwot Road and East County Line Road.

According to CSP, a 16-year-old boy from Lafayette was driving a Chevrolet Corvette westbound on Niwot Road when the vehicle collided with a concrete barrier on the north side of the road.

Despite wearing his seatbelt, the 16-year-old driver sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.

Tragically, the passenger in the vehicle, identified as an 18-year-old man from Lafayette named Ty Stroud by the coroner’s office, was ejected from the car despite also wearing his seatbelt. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

CSP has indicated that alcohol consumption and excessive speed are suspected to have contributed to this single-car crash. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far.
